(Al-Qaida/Taliban) Sanctions Committee Review

1. (SBU) The Jordanian Foreign Ministry responded by diplomatic
note number 9/7/740 dated January 6, 2010 to reftel request for
information on individuals and organizations subject to
comprehensive review by the UN 1267 (al-Qaida/Taliban Sanctions)
Committee. The MFA clarified that Mohammed Abu Dhess (QI.
A.130.03),is in fact Mohammad Ghassan Ali S'oud Abu Dheis, a
Jordanian citizen, born on June 22, 1966. No information is
provided on the location of Abu Dhess/Dheis, but his mother, Zahra
Mohammad, is identified as living in Germany. There is no record of
Abu Dhess/Dheis having any financial instruments in his name in
Jordan.
2. (SBU) With regard to Al-Qaida in Iraq (QE.J.115.04),the MFA
reports that the organization changed its name on October 13, 2006,
to the "Iraq Islamic State" led by Abu Ayoub Al Masri and Abu Omar
Al Baghdadi. The MFA reconfirms the organization should be listed
because of its involvement in the 2005 terror attacks against three
hotels in Jordan.
