SUBJECT: CROATIAN RESPONSE ON AFGHANISTAN AND PAKISTAN
DELIVERABLES

REF: STATE 28929

Classified By: PolOfficer Peter D'Amico, for reasons 1.4(b) & (d).

(C) Poloff delivered points from reftel to Andrej Dogan,
Head of the Department for International Security at the
MFA. Dogan expressed agreement with the conclusions of the
U.S. strategic review regarding Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He noted that Croatia had just deployed an additional
Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) in March and
would soon deploy a third OMLT. Regarding the establishment
of a NATO training mission in Afghanistan for para-military
and police operations, Dogan said that the GoC was in the
planning stage of considering having Croatian military police
(MP) participate in training in Afghanistan. (Note:
According to the FA there are approximately 50 Croatian MPs
currently serving in Kabul. End Note.) The GoC would also
contribute USD 50,000 for the Afghan election support fund.
Dogan concluded by praising the USG for its openness with
allies while conducting its strategic review.
