1. This is an action request. See para 3.
2. USUN Host Country is informed by Vornado Realty Trust
that the following Permanent Missions to the United Nations,
with office space at 866 UN Plaza, New York, NY, have been
delinquent in paying their monthly rental and related tenant
charges. Arrears as of August 1, 2009 are listed below:
- Azerbaijan, $44,903.78, last payment received in
June 2009
- Kyrgyzstan, $9,544.37, last payment received in
April 2009
- Palau, $17,490.85, last payment received in May 2009
Outstanding arrears for UN missions of Comoros ($34,564.94)
and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($90,674.20) were
reported separately last month (see reftels). USUN has sent
letters to the Permanent Representatives of the
aforementioned missions requesting prompt settlement.
3. Action Request: Department is requested to demarche
relevant capitals to stress importance of settling
outstanding debt and ensuring timely payment of rent, by the
first of each month, per their lease agreements. The Vice
President for Operations of Vornado Realty in NY particularly
requested DOS intervention to encourage payments prior to the
upcoming UNGA session in September and the distractions of
high-level delegations in NY.
