1. Vornado Realty Trust has informed USUN/HC that it
received a check for $102,999.88 on December 29, 2008 to
cover outstanding rental arrears and bring the Permanent
Mission of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United
Nations current through January 31, 2009. In a December 30,
2008 letter to Ambassador Atoki Ileka, Vornado reminded the
PermRep that monthly charges of $11,885.72 are due on or
before the first of each month.
2. For several years now the DROC UN Mission has let
rental arrears run up to over $100K before finally making
payment. Per Reftels, Department may wish to reinforce to
the GODRC the need to abide by the terms of its lease
agreement to avoid repetition of past years' arrears.
