1. USUN has emailed to Department (IO/PSC-Tammy Pomerleau
and EUR-IO/EX/FM-Alice Green) a note and attachment dated 11
November 2009 from the Secretary-General requesting payment
of U.S. assessed contributions which remain outstanding. The
note states that as of 6 November 2009, amounts assessed but
not yet paid total $1,352,941,649.87. The note also states
that the amount of $177,206,474.00 for credits/overpayments
remain in favor of the U.S. Government. Text of note follows.

Reference: Contributions 2-1
The Secretary-General of the United Nations presents his
compliments to the Permanent Representative of the United
States to the United Nations and has the honor to refer to
Financial Regulation 3.4, which states that contributions
shall be considered due and payable in full within 30 days of
the receipt of the communication of the Secretary-General
informing Member States of their commitments, and to General
Assembly resolution 58/1B of 23 December 2003 which, inter
alia, urges all Member States to pay their assessed
contributions in full, on time and without imposing
conditions, as well as to General Assembly resolution 56/243A
of 24 December 2001 which encouraged Member States in a
position to do so to provide a schedule of payments or other
information about their intentions to clear their accumulated
arrears.
United Nations records indicate that, as of 6 November 2009,
the following amounts, had been assessed but were not yet
paid by your Excellency's Government. It should be noted
that these figures do not reflect any amounts due for
assessments issued within the last 30 days*:

could provide information on its intentions for payment of
these amounts, as called for by the General Assembly in its
resolution 56/243A.
