1. (SBU) On January 12, Danish PermRep Per Poulsen-Hansen,
acting in his role as Dean of the NATO PermReps, distributed
a letter to colleagues proposing a meeting on January 27 to
begin the process which will result in the selection of the
next NATO Secretary General. (Note: Ambassador Volker will
send via septel thoughts on handling this process.)

Dear Colleagues,
At our meeting on 30 September 2008 we agreed that I would
get back to the procedure concerning the selection of
candidate (sic) for the post of the future Secretary General
after the New Year.
I propose that we hold the first meeting on this subject on
Tuesday 27 January 2009 following the Secretary General's
coffee.
