1. (C) Per Ref A, Mission invited four Iranians to
UNVIE,s July 4 celebration. Mission invited Iranian
Permanent Representative to the UN Ali Asghar Soltanieh,
Deputy PermRep Alireza Esmaeili, First Counselor Reza
Pourmand Tehrani, and Third Secretary Rahim Saki, who works
the counternarcotics issue. These invitations are consistent
with invitations proffered by UNVIE to other missions.
Mission will report if we receive replies from these
individuals, but we expect that we may not find out until
July 4 whether our Iranian counterparts will attend.
