1. (U) The Japanese government officially supports the U.S.
candidacy for the Human Rights Council, MOFA informed Embassy
Tokyo in a note dated April 20.
2. (U) BEGIN TEXT OF NOTE VERBALE NO. 1575/FP-HH. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to the
Embassy of the United States of America, and with reference
to the latter's Note No. 0217, dated April 16, 2009, has the
honor to inform the latter that the Government of Japan will
support the candidacy of the United States of America for the
election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the
term 2009-2012, to be held on May 12, 2009. The Ministry of
Foreign Affairs avails itself of this opportunity to renew to
the Embassy of the United States of America the assurances of
