1. (C) Post continues to advise against an additional
demarche to the Government of Uzbekistan (GOU) urging it to
recognize Kosovo at this time. The GOU has made it clear that
"third party" involvement in this issue is not welcome, and further
discussions of this with the GOU could be counterproductive.
Persistent GOU concerns about borders and separatism in Central
Asia suggest that Uzbekistan will not recognize either Kosovo or
Akbhazia and South Ossetia in the near future.
