1. (SBU) Summary: On March 10 and 11 Public Affairs
Section (PAS) staff successfully held English language training
workshops in Urgench and discussed several upcoming projects with the
rector of Urgench State University (UrSU). The rector was
surprisingly candid and open to future collaboration with the
Embassy. Future possible projects include a new resource center, an
after-school language program similar to the English Access
Microscholarship program, and an English Language Fellow at the
university. A recently returned USG alumna helped arrange all
aspects of the visit, demonstrating again the powerful impact that
educational exchange programs can have here. End summary.
