1. (SBU) Post sent the proposed TIFA Council agenda (reftel) to the
MFA by diplomatic note on July 30 with the request that it be
forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations,
Investment, and Trade (MFERIT). The note further requested a
meeting with MFERIT Minister Elyor Ganiev to discuss any GOU
comments on the proposed agenda and to identify issues the GOU
would like to see included in the bilateral U.S.-Uzbek dialog
preceding the TIFA Council meeting.
2. (SBU) On August 21 we received a diplomatic note from the MFA
informing that Uzbekistan will be represented by Minister Ganiev at
the TIFA Council on 7-8 October. There was no comment concerning
the proposed agenda or topics for bilateral discussion. The MFA
informed us verbally on August 27 that it is still attempting to
arrange a meeting for us with Minister Ganiev.
