1. (SBU) On July 8, Acting Economic Counselor shared reftel
points with Ambassador Per Saland, Sanctions Coordinator, and
Sofie Hillbom, Counter-Terrorism Unit Desk Officer, at the
MFA's Department for Security Policy. Saland thanked post
for what he called the "very good news" that the U.S. would
be prepared to support a formal de-listing petition for the
Barakaat International Foundation should Sweden decide to
file one. He stated that although he does not have the
authority to promise that Sweden will file a de-listing
petition, he is confident that Sweden will seek a close
dialogue with the U.S. to determine the best way forward to
achieve a positive result.
2. (SBU) As regards the proposed de-listing of deceased
Swedish citizen Mohammed Moumou, Saland commented that he
believes this is also necessary despite the absence of a
death certificate, adding that it is very important to keep
the 1267 list up to date. Saland closed by saying that he
was "very pleased" with this news and happy to maintain a
good relationship with the U.S. in this respect.
