SUBJECT: SWEDISH RESPONSE TO DEMARCHE REGARDING THE AD-HOC
LIAISON COMMITTEE MEETING, JUNE 8

On June 2, Acting Economic Counselor shared reftel points
with Deputy Director Maria Linderyd and Desk Officer Maria
Velasco Ullenhag, Middle East and North Africa Department, at
the Swedish MFA. Linderyd commented that Sweden remains
strongly committed to the support of the Palestinian
Authority (PA) and the Palestinians. She stated that Sweden
has pledged some $92.6 million in 2009, of which about $62
million has already been paid in humanitarian support this
year. Velasco Ullenhag said that Sweden has also allocated
$6.5 million in direct support to the PA in the 2009 budget
and is currently preparing to re-allocate extra short-term
funds to partners in Gaza, primarily through NGOs. The
Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) expects to
make a decision regarding the dispersal of these funds
shortly. Post will report any additional information septel.
