SUBJECT: USUN INSTRUCTION: SOMALIA SANCTIONS COMMITTEE
ARMS EMBARGO EXEMPTION
1. This is an action request. USUN is requested to seek from
the Committee established pursuant to resolution 751 (1992)
concerning Somalia an exemption to the arms embargo on
Somalia established by the Security Council in resolution 733
(1992).
2. BEGIN LETTER
In accordance with paragraph 11 (b) of resolution 1772
(2007),the U.S. Mission hereby requests approval for an
exemption to the arms embargo imposed on Somalia by UN
Security Council resolution 733 (1992).
To support security sector reform efforts in Somalia, the
United States Government (USG) would like to provide airlift
for 567 Transitional Federal Government soldiers from
Entebbe, Uganda to Mogadishu, Somalia. No equipment will be
supplied to the soldiers; the United States will only provid
transportation.
