1. (U) Please deliver the following reply from Secretary
Clinton to UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
There will be no signed original.
2. (U) BEGIN TEXT.
Dear Mr. Minister:
Thank you for your kind letter inviting a delegation from the
United States to attend the third Preparatory Committee
Meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Since signing the IRENA Statute in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, in
June 2009, the Department of State has taken an extremely
active role in working with your government and other member
states in developing the organizational and programmatic
components of IRENA. I commend you and your UAE colleagues
for all that you have done to ensure that IRENA becomes a
success. The dedicated work of Dr. Sultan Al Jaber and his
staff in helping to establish the IRENA headquarters in Abu
Dhabi is greatly appreciated, and we look forward to our
continued cooperation in its operations.
The United States will indeed send a delegation to the
Preparatory Committee meeting. We will forward a list of
delegation members to you soon.
Thank you again for the invitation and for your countrys
commitment to IRENA and its work to promote the widespread and
sustainable use of renewable energy on a global scale.
Sincerely yours,
Hillary Rodham Clinton
