at the November 5, 2009, Permanent Council meeting in Vienna.
Begin text:
Thank you, Madam Chairwoman,
The United States wishes to expresses its concern regarding
the recent conviction in Turkmenistan of environmental
activist Andrei Zatoka to the maximum possible term. The
United States is following closely the situation surrounding
Mr. Zatoka's conviction and his sentence to five year's
incarceration. We urge the Government of Turkmenistan to
provide Mr. Zatoka with access to fair legal proceedings
consistent with Turkmen law and Turkmenistan's OSCE
commitments.
