Head for Arab and Islamic Organizations Mohamed Arrouchi
November 12. Arrouchi stated that Morocco supported the
Government of Afghanistan and that Morocco would look into
sending a high-level representative for the Afghan
presidential inauguration. He confirmed that Morocco
supported U.S. interests in Afghanistan and that Morocco
wanted to see Afghan President Karzai succeed. However, he
said that Morocco did not intend to send diplomatic
representation to Afghanistan in the near future although he
understood why the U.S. considered this an important gesture.
He stated that Moroccan officials met with Afghan
representatives on the margins of international meetings,
mostly at Organization for the Islamic Conference reunions.
