(S) PolCouns and PolOff met with Ministry of Justice (MOJ)
Secretary General Mohammed Lididi on October 23 to follow up
on Reftel conversation concerning the Government of Morocco's
(GOM's) intention to prosecute Younis Abdurrahman Checkkouri
(197) should he be repatriated from Guantanamo. Lididi
understood that the U.S. is seeking assurance that the GOM
will prosecute Checkkouri upon his return to the country, and
promised to raise the issue with Minister of Justice
Abdelwahed Radi. Lididi said that this decision would likely
involve both the MOJ and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
Cooperation, and he implied that the Palace would weigh in on
the final decision.
