SUBJECT: 64TH UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY: PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
ON CZECH PARTICIPATION

REF: STATE 68590

Czech MFA Department of the Americas official Marketa Balkova
informed emboff that many of the details of the Czech
delegation participation at the 64th UN General Assembly
(UNGA) have not been worked out. She did confirm, however,
that the Head of State, President Vaclav Klaus, and the
Foreign Minister, Jan Kohout, are planning to attend UNGA.
The Head of Government, Prime Minister Jan Fischer, is not
planning to travel to UNGA. The exact dates of travel have
not been established, nor the rest of the members of the
delegation, nor whether spouses will accompany. The MFA has
been informed that President Klaus only intends to attend 2-3
days of the UNGA, while the Foreign Minister currently plans
to attend the majority of the UNGA events and meetings. With
respect to interpreting, Foreign Minister Kohout does not
require interpreting as he is fluent in English. President
Klaus speaks English, but he does occasionally use an
interpreter, depending on the topic of discussion. Thus,
President Klaus may request a Czech interpreter.
