1. (C) The Permanent Representative of Seychelles to the UN,
Ambassador Ronald (Ronny)Jumeau, was present for only one of
the 88 votes at the 63rd UN General Assembly in 2008, and
Jumeau was also absent at the 64th 3rd Committee vote on the
resolution on "defamation of religion." Given, that the
current, primary focus of the GOS is on its more immediate
problems of a weak economy, made even worse by the piracy
issue in the Indian Ocean, Post believe it is highly unlikely
that the GOS or its representatives will participate in any
debate at the UN General Assembly. Embassy Port Louis will
continue to press the Government of Seychelles to recognize
the importance of this issue and take a stand with us.
