1. (U) In response to RefTel A, Post reports that
unfortunately no one from the Government of Suriname plans to
attend the June 2009 Energy and Climate Partnership of the
Americas in Lima. Tom Kartoebi, Head of the Americas
Division at Suriname,s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told
PolEconPD Assistant that he is not aware of any plans of the
Government of Suriname (GOS) to attend this Symposium.
2. (U) PolEconPDOff presented on April 2, 2009 the
President's intention to invite countries within the Western
Hemisphere. At that time, Tom Kartoebi expressed preliminary
interest in the GOS,s participation in the Symposium; he
also indicated that energy and climate issues are high on the
agenda, both for Suriname and CARICOM (RefTel B).
