1. On February 24, President Mamadou Tandja signed an executive
order extending the "State of Alert" on Agadez region for an
additional 90 day period from its effective date, also February 24.
This travel limitation and security measure has been in place since
August 2007.
2. This decision will continue to restrict free movement for nearly
one-half of Niger, preventing the return of tourism to the hard-hit
region, despite decreasing hostilities in the north.
