REF: STATE 49083
Classified By: Charge D'Affaires Peter Burleigh. Reasons: 1.4(B, D).
(C) In a May 15 meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Shiv
Shankar Menon, Charge thanked the Indian government for any
efforts it might have made to help secure the release of
Iranian-American journalist Roxana Saberi. Menon said that
India had been in contact with Iran on the matter, but was
quick to note that New Delhi did not deserve credit for
Saberi's release. He attributed the release to an improved
atmosphere in Tehran and hoped that this positive trend would
continue after the Iranian elections.
