1. (U) In response to reftel, Econ Officer and an Economic
Specialist from Consulate General Milan visited the
headquarters of Aermeccanica S.R.L., via Monte Grappa N.2,
21015 Lonate Pozzolo Varese, on June 29, 2009 to obtain the
following information.
2. (U) Aermeccanica is a family-owned aircraft maintenance
company founded in 1972. The company provides parts repair
services primarily for the Italian army, defense and
air-force. It is located close to Malpensa International
Airport and provides maintenance services for many of its
carriers. Aermeccanica is an authorized repair provider for
Goodrich, Teledyne Continental Motors, Michelin, Bridgestone
and Meggit Aircraft Braking Systems.
3. (U) The company understands the U.S. restrictions on U.S.
Munitions List items, complies with Italian export laws and
regulations, and has no intention to re-export the parts in
question. They provided the proper end-user identification
documents and did ask what process should be followed for
future end-users.
4. (U) Security systems at the facility include a walled
perimeter with flood lights and two access-controlled gates.
There is also a keypad alarm system but no video surveillance
or night guard presence.
