1. (U) Post delivered reftel demarche via dipnote to
Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) with info copy
to Ministry of Transportation (MOT) on November 18.
2. (U) Ministry of Transportation Deputy Under Secretary Mohd
Saiful Ridwan told EconOff that Malaysia would carefully
consider the request for support for the U.S. candidacy to
the International Maritime Organization (IMO) council in
Category "A," but would not be able to commit at this time.
3. (U) Saiful noted that Malaysia's delegation will be led by
Minister of Transportation Ong Tee Keat. He suggested that
the U.S. delegation contact Malaysia's delegation in London
if the U.S. side wishes to discuss the candidacy further.
