SUBJECT: POST RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR 2009 TIP INTERIM ASSESSMENT

REF: STATE 111958

In response to reftel, post notes that there is currently no
anti-trafficking in persons legislation before the FSM Congress.
The FSM Congress Legislative Counsel states that there are
currently no plans to introduce any comprehensive federal
anti-human trafficking law. The GOFSM Public Information Office
states that there are currently no campaigns underway to inform
the public about the dangers of trafficking, nor are there any
plans to do so. No government agency is currently monitoring
the practices of overseas employment recruiters and
investigating recruiters who may be involved in trafficking.
Protective services for the victims of any crime do not exist in
the FSM, so there is no internal structure to provide services
to trafficking victims.
