(BEGIN TEXT OF MFAFT DIPNOTE 50/140/81)

"Ref. No. 50/140/81:

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
of Jamaica presents its compliments to the Embassy of the
United States of America and has the honour to advise that
the Government of Jamaica submitted its candidature for
membership of the Executive Council of the World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO) for the 2009-2013 period, elections for
which will be held during the eighteenth session of the UNWTO
General Assembly, in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 5 to 9 October

2009.

The Ministry further has the honour to enclose an
Aide Memoire outlining the importance of tourism to the
Jamaican economy, as well as Jamaica's involvement in the
activities of the UNWTO.

Jamaica is committed to the efforts of the UNWTO in
promoting the development of sustainable, responsible and
universally accessible tourism, and believes that election to
the Executive Council would provide an opportunity to share
its experiences in the tourism sector for the benefit of all
countries, especially developing ones.

The Government of Jamaica would, therefore, be
grateful for the valuable support of the Government of United
States of America for the aforementioned candidature.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
of Jamaica avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the
Embassy of the United States of America the assurances of its
heights consideration.
