1. Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Janice Miller, Assistant
Director of Economic Affairs at Jamaica's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT),on January 8.
2. Miller indicated that the Jamaican Parliament must vote to
ratify the Montreal Convention. The Minister of Transport
introduced the bill in Parliament for a first reading in November,
2008. Miller said she expected a second reading and subsequent vote
to occur relatively quickly, but could not provide a specific time
frame. She stated that Jamaica remains committed to ratifying the
Convention, and said the MFAFT will keep the Embassy apprised of the
progress. Post will report accordingly.
