1. (C) The General Manager for Services at the Jeddah
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI),Sara Baghdadi,
informed EconOff this week that the 10th Annual Jeddah
Economic Forum (JEF),cancelled in 2009 amid a political
crisis involving former JCCI Chairman Saleh Turki (refs b and
b),has been formally approved and will go forward in 2010.
The JCCI signed contracts with the private firms that will
organize the event. The conference will begin on February
13, 2010, and presumably last a week if former JEFs can serve
as a guide.

2. (C) The requisite government approvals, lacking earlier
this year when the JEF was originally meant to take place,
are all in place. This is the second time the conference has
been rescheduled (ref a). The first time the JCCI attempted
to reset the date in October but was unable to re-engage the
speakers who had agreed to participate in the original
program set for February 2009. The subject of the conference,
which has traditionally attracted world leaders and
high-flying speakers with crowd appeal, will be the Global
Financial Crisis and its effects over the next ten years. A
completely new slate of speakers will likely be invited.
