FLASH/CAP APPEAL
REF: SECSTATE 135559
(SBU) Denmark is aware of the UNRWA flash appeal for
emergency assistance to suffering Gazans and is likely to
announce a contribution of a yet to be determined sum within
the next week, according to Jette Lund, Deputy Director for
the Danish Foreign Ministry Office of Humanitarian Policy and
Assistance. In a January 2 discussion in which we informed
of the USG contribution and urged a generous Danish response
to the UNRWA appeal, Lund noted that Norway had already
announced a contribution of 30 million Norwegian kroner and
stated it was highly likely that Denmark would make a
contribution of some sort as well regarding the flash appeal
and possibly also for the CAP. We will follow-up and report
further developments.
