1. According to Jakob Rogild Jakobsen, Chief of Section of
the Danish MFA Middle East Policy and Assistance office,
about half of Denmark's USD 17.4 million pledge will be
directed toward humanitarian assistance, with about 90
percent of the funds earmarked for UNRWA activities and a
smaller portion set aside for disbursement by Danish NGOs.
The other half of the USD 17.4 million pledge will be
disbursed by the Danish Government's development project
office in Gaza for reconstruction projects. No funding will
go to or through Hamas. The pledge is conditioned on a
durable ceasefire and access to Gaza, and funds will be
disbursed over the next three years.
2. Jakobsen noted that Denmark has also "re-packaged" a USD
34 million pledge for Gaza that was announced at a December
2007 donor's conference in Paris but has not yet been
disbursed. The "re-packaged" USD 34 million pledge will be
apportioned and disbursed along the same lines and time frame
as the new USD 17.4 million pledge.
