1. (SBU) In a meeting with Foreign Minister Bogollagama on
May 11, Charge and EconChief outlined U.S. support for
Kosovo's membership application to the World Bank.
Highlighting the recent positive vote in favor of Kosovo's
IMF membership, and taking into consideration the GSL's
decision not to recognize Kosovo, EconChief encouraged
Bogollagama to submit an abstention vote to the World Bank.
Bogollagama noted that the GSL prefers not to take any action
concerning Kosovo until the International Court of Justice
publishes its advisory opinion on whether Kosovo's unilateral
declaration of independence is in accordance with
international law. Econ Chief encouraged Bogollagama to
reconsider and to register a vote with the World Bank.
