1. Sri Lanka has not tendered any airport construction projects in
recent years. However, a planned new airport construction in the
southern district city of Hambantota is nearing final clearances and
funding. According to GSL officials, once funding and/or financing
options become available, the project will be quickly tendered.
2. A proposed runway expansion project at Bandaranaike
International Airport, the country's only international airport,
awaits environmental clearances. The GSL also hopes to secure
funding for this project prior to publishing a tender.
3. Post will monitor developments in these projects and keep USTR
informed of any irregularities or lack of transparency in the tender
procedures that would unfairly discriminate against suppliers of
U.S. goods and services.
