1. (SBU) Poloff delivered non-paper and points contained in
reftel to Gerald Thomson, Director for Korea, and Wendy
Walsh, Director for Arms Control, Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (DFAT) on May 14. Thomson undertook to
pass the paper to other interested GOA offices, including
DFAT's Sanctions and Transnational Crime Section.
2. (C) Thomson reiterated that Australia was in full
compliance with its obligations under UNSCR 1718, and in fact
had placed the three entities named in reftel on its
consolidated sanctions list in September 2006 as autonomous
entities. Existing GOA legislation automatically covered the
newest designations. Thomson provided his view it was
extremely unlikely that any of the entities conducted
activities in Australia.
