SUBJECT: AUSTRALIA TO BACK U.S. AT DURBAN REVIEW CONFERENCE
WORKING GROUP

REF: STATE 14204

(SBU) Craig MacLachlan, Assistant Secretary for International
Organizations, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in
responding to reftel demarche, confirmed that the Australian
delegation to the Durban Review Conference Intergovernmental
Working Group, led by Ambassador Caroline Millar, has been
instructed to cooperate with both the U.S. and the EU
delegations. He acknowledged that, despite hopes for a more
conciliatory attitude at the IWG, there was little sign of
flexibility on the part of the IOC and the African Union,
which had added unhelpful text to the document under review.
