1. (U) Summary: Argentina has only one confirmed case of Influenza
A (H1N1) to date, while 88 are still under study. The Ministry of
Health requested information from Post about four Americans who may
have been on a flight from Mexico that carried a "suspected" H1N1
case. Post was able to track two of these travelers so far, neither
of whom was on the purported flight. On May 14, the GOA announced
that its decision to end its ban on flights from Mexico. Flights
will be allowed to resume starting on May 18. End Summary.

Current H1N1 Cases in Argentina
--------------
2. (U) The Emergency Task Force on H1N1 still meets on a regular
basis. There have been 161 samples tested in Argentina since the
outbreak, of which one has proved positive and 72 negative, while 88
are still under study.
3. (SBU) Argentina's Ministry of Health (MOH) sent a note to the
Embassy on May 11 requesting assistance in locating four American
citizens believed to have been on a GOA chartered flight that
returned from Mexico on May 4. The note stated that one of the
other passengers on the flight was confirmed with H1N1. On May 12,
the Embassy received the identical note, with the exception that the
individual formerly confirmed with H1N1 was said to be "suspected."
When asked, MOH officials stated that the confirmation had been an
error. American Citizen Services has spoken with two of the four
individuals. One said that he was not aboard the flight in
question. Another said that while she did fly from NYC to Buenos
Aires, her flight did not stop in Mexico City (as was reported by
the note). The third and fourth passengers have not responded to
e-mails or phone messages. Post continues to try to reach them.

Resumption of Flights to Mexico announced

4. (U) The GOA announced the resumption of direct air traffic with
Mexico beginning May 18, cancelling a ban begun on April 28. All
passengers on flights from the United States and Canada are being
screened with thermal scanning devices. Passengers arriving from
other destinations must provide a sworn statement signed by the
passenger describing his health condition. The GOA also announced
that all passengers coming from Western Hemisphere countries should
wear protective masks provided by the airline companies, although
this measure has not yet been implemented.
