Pol/Econoff delivered the demarche to the U.S. desk officer
at the Hungarian MFA on February 20. MFA responded on
February 27, that Hungary embraces the U.S. platform of
humanitarian aid and recovery assistance, supports a cease
fire and believes the borders should be open immediately. MFA
State Secretary Laszlo Varkonyi, will attend and give remarks
on Hungary's financial contribution. The amount or scope of
the contribution is not yet known.
