GENERAL ASSEMBLY, THIRD COMMITTEE

(B) and (D)

Lieke Biesemans, Attach in the Human Rights Department at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was grateful for the reftel
points regarding the upcoming UN General Assembly Third
Committee, delivered on October 23. She agreed with the U.S.
positions on no-action motions, country specific and
elections resolutions. She said that Belgium would not even
consider engaging on a resolution with the title "defamation
of religion" and would certainly vote against it. She urged
cooperation between Belgium and the U.S. on the
counter-terrorism resolution, to counteract anticipated
Organization of the Islamic Conference resistance.
