1. (SBU) FAS Officer demarched St. Lucia Chief Veterinary
Officer George Joseph regarding the pork ban as requested
reftel. Joseph confirmed the ban, and declined to consider
lifting it at this time. We will continue to follow up with
ag ministry contacts and MFA. The CVO in St. Lucia has broad
authorities and autonomy within the government structure,
making it difficult for other ministries or officials to
compel action.
