1. (U) China was researching the question of filing a brief
with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the question
of Kosovo independence, MFA Treaty and Law Department Public
and International Law Division Attache Li Bingzhuo told
PolOff April 1. Li was responding to reftel points,
presented to the MFA March 27, for host governments that
supported the UNGA vote to request an advisory opinion from
the ICJ on Kosovo but are not generally expected to be
receptive to filing a brief in support of Kosovo. Li offered
no timeline for China's decision on filing a brief.
