1. (C) We delivered REFTEL points on May 22 to MFA South
Asia Department Head Emre Karagol. On May 18 Turkey hosted a
meeting of all the Pakistan-Afghanistan SRAPS. During the
course of this meeting, MFA Deputy U/S Sinirlioglu stated
that Turkey was preparing a package of aid for Pakistan in
addition to the $100 million it pledged at the April 17
Donors Conference in Tokyo. Karagol confirmed this, but said
the total amount of aid remains undetermined. Karagol also
confirmed Sinirlioglu's statement that during the May 23-24
OIC ministerial meeting in Damascus, Turkey plans to
encourage OIC member states to make aid contributions to
Pakistan.
