SUBJECT: JORDAN: GOLDSTONE REPORT DEMARCHE PASSED
REF: SECSTATE 112828
Classified By: Ambassador R. Stephen Beecroft for reasons 1.4 (b) and (
d).
1. (C) On November 3, the Ambassador passed copies of reftel
demarche points to both Nasser Lozi, Chief of the Royal
Court, and Jaffar Hassan, Director of International Affairs
for the Royal Court. Both officials acknowledged the receipt
of the USG views on the upcoming General Assembly debate on
the report and said they would take the demarche points
"under advisement."
2. (C) Comment: Separately, Jordanian interlocutors have
told Embassy officials that they see no way for Jordan to
support the U.S. position on this issue, given current
domestic and regional public opinion. The Jordanians do not
believe that they are in a position to vote against measures
that the USG finds objectionable. End Comment.
