POLOFF delivered points Reftel D to Second Secretary Mohamed
Tarawneh from the MFA America's desk, who was acting
essentially a duty officer for today (note: Our usual GOJ
interlocutors within the MFA are no longer in Amman; several
delegations are attending UNGA and other UN Organizational
conferences, and others are on vacation in anticipation of
the Eid al-Fitr Holiday). Tarawneh indicated that the issue
had not received wide attention within the MFA to this point.
Although he understood our concerns clearly, he indicated
that GOJ had not formulated a specific response to either the
FAO budget request or the proposed funding mechanism for
institutional reform. Tarawneh said that he would update us
when they have made a final decision and Post will follow up
on the matter with GOJ as necessary.
