1. (U) PolOff delivered reftel demarche to Mesfin Midekssa,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director for Specialized
International Agencies, on August 11. Mesfin stated that the
Government of Ethiopia (GoE) had not yet decided which
candidate to support in the UNESCO Director-General race, but
that the Ministry would consider the recommendations provided
by the U.S. as it makes a decision. Embassy will provide
further information on the GoE's decision once it is
available.
