1. Post received the following diplomatic note on May 18, 2009,
requesting USG support for the UAE's candidacy as a "category C"
member of the IMO Council.

Complimentary opening
The Ministry has the honor to inform the Embassy that the United
Arab Emirates has submitted its nomination to the Council of the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) in "Category C", for
elections to be held as part of work session 26 of the General
Assembly to be held in London from 23 November to 04 December 2009.
The UAE government hopes to receive the support and assistance of
the government of the United States of America for its candidacy,
stemming from the close brotherly relations which link our two
countries.
