1. (C) During a January 21 meeting, Prime Minister Sanader
informed the Ambassador that he and President Mesic had
agreed that former Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic
would be the new Croatian Ambassador to the United States,
replacing Neven Jurica who is moving to New York as Croatia's
UN Perm Rep. The Prime Minister said that a formal agrement
request would be made shortly, and he expresssed the hope
that this request would be approved as soon as possible.
2. (C) The Ambassador responded that Grabar-Kitarovic had an
excellent reputation in Washington and was a very good
choice. He expressed confidence that once the agrement
request was received, the U.S. would act expeditiously.
