SUBJECT: LITHUANIA AWARE AND PARTICIPATING IN GLOBAL
MARITIME PARTNERSHIPS (GMPS)

On May 16 we met with Juozas Darulis and Livita Kretkovskiene
of the Ministry of Transport's Water Transport Department to
discuss reftel. They thanked us for the reftel information
and said they would need to discuss GMP ideas with their
neighbors. Admiral Macijauskas, the Commander of the
Lithuanian Navy, attended the International Seapower
Symposium (ISS) in October 2007, where U.S. maritime
strategy, including GMPs, was discussed. The Admiral told
Post's Naval Attach that GMPs are good in concept but he
would prefer more concrete proposals. Examples of GMPs in
which the Lithuanian navy presently participates include NATO
and BALTRON.
