1. (U) Post requests one intern for the Summer 2009 cycle.
The intern will support the work of the political section.
This will include preparation of briefing papers and support
of NATO committee work. The intern will likely focus their
work under supervision of an FSO in one or two areas, such as
Afghanistan, Russia, or NATO enlargement. Foreign language
abilities are not a prerequisite, but a basic knowledge of
French would be helpful. Rising seniors or graduates
students are preferred.

2. (U) Political officer L. Reece Smyth is USNATO's intern
coordinator. Telephone 32 2 724 3268; fax 32 2 724 3421;
email smythlr@state.gov.

3. (U) Post does not provide housing for interns, but often
members of the Embassy community will offer to house an
intern.

4. (U) Interns may arrive without a visa as long as they do
not stay in Belgium longer than 90 days.
