1. (C) USNATO delivered an oral readout (reftel) of the July
29 meeting between Assistant Secretary Fried and Russian MFA
Arms Control Director Antonov to the NATO International Staff
on August 7. The NATO POC thanked the U.S. rep for the
readout and did not have any follow-up questions other than
to ask when the next bilateral meeting would be held. Due to
the August holiday timeframe, many of the Allied
representatives covering CFE are away, although most if not
all have already received readouts from their respective
embassies in Washington. Nevertheless, USNATO will continue
to followup with Allied delegations as needed during the
course of the summer period.
