1. (C) On November 6, the Charge d'Affairs and PolOff
delivered reftel demarche to Multilateral Cooperation
Department Acting Director Batjargal at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Charge requested that
Mongolia continue to oppose no-action motions in the Third
Committee of the UN as it has consistently done in recent
years. Batjargal assured us Mongolia would do so. We
thanked Batjargal specifically for Mongolia's vote last
year against the no-action motion on Iran, which was
defeated by a single vote.
2. (C) The Charge, after acknowledging Mongolia's challenge
in balancing diplomatic relations with both Koreas,
requested Mongolia's support for the Third Committee
resolutions on Iran, Burma, and the DPRK. Batjargal stated
that Mongolia's position on these matters would not differ
from last year, when Mongolia abstained on Iran, voted YES
on Burma, and was not present for the DPRK vote.
